Hello all!  Thank you for taking the time to read our story.

Its hard to say if this is the start of a new journey, or just the next step on a path that we have been on for quite some time, but after several months of searching, praying, listening, learning, exploring and dreaming together, Kali and I have responded to something that we believe is both a divine calling and a really great opportunity for our family to serve with an international church planting organization called Communitas International in Edinburgh, Scotland.

While this is in many ways a dream come true for us, and a fulfillment of a desire we have shared since our marriage to be part of a global Church movement,  it is certainly not a conclusion that has come easily to us, or without a lot of accompanying sadness.  The hardest part of this process by far (and its not even close) has been the thought of pulling our family away from an abundantly safe, stable and loving environment and into an unfamiliar city 7 timezones away from the family, friends and community that have loved and nurtured us up to this point.

In case you did not know, (or simply lost count!) we have 4 young kids who have been truly graced with great relationships with two incredibly loving sets of grandparents just down the street--it is no exaggeration to say that they LOVE their Mimis and Bappas! Not to mention, aunts, uncles, a great school in a just-out-of-Mayberry type of neighborhood where we literally all sit on the front porch and watch our kids play together around the cul de sac--it's a white picket fence away from a total cliche!

On top of all of this, we have a lifetime worth of friends, colleagues, and an amazing church in our hometown of Des Moines.  If you care enough to read this blog, you are probably one of these people, and Kali and I would like to thank you wholeheartedly for all of the love and support which went into making this such a gut wrenching decision, and also apologize if you are finding out about this for the time on social media or through this blog.  We have done our best to tell as many friends as possible in person, but we have grown weary of keeping track of who knows and who doesn't at this point, and just need to "rip the bandaid off" as they say.

Though we don't anticipate moving for another year (target date is June/July 2019), there are so many people we want to communicate with, and so much we would like to share as we go through this journey that we decided to start this blog to keep people up to date on the process and once we get over there.  As the name of the blog suggests, we hope to use this a s space to keep people posted on where we are--geographically of course, but hopefully more importantly, mentally, emotionally and spiritually as well.  We would love to invite you to follow this blog or just check in from time to time.

There is so much more we would like to say, but for now, if you have never heard of Communitas, take a moment to check them out here.
